He has the potential to be the best QB in the country.” That’s high praise coming from Coach Coard, but no other person is more fitting for that praise than Nick Wilds - Lawing. The incoming freshman QB has the talent, intangibles and work ethic to become the next great Aggie QB.
Coming out of NorthWest Cabarrus Higschool in Concord. NC Wilds- , Lawings was one of the most talented and most underrated Quarterback in the entire state. In his high school career he threw for a total of over 5,3000 passing yards 62 passing TD’s and 30 rushing touchdowns to only 21 interceptions. Just imagine if he played his sophomore year too. Standing at 6’3 Lawings is a tall athletic, dual threat Quarterback with a cannon for an arm, pinpoint accuracy, and who's a leader and winner that's extremely mentally tough.
Watching Wilds- Lawings throw the football is like a work of art. From his pretty release, to how he stands in the pocket progressing his reads, it is easy to see why Lawings garners so much praise. His combination of very good pocket prescene, and escapability to avoid pass rush is Lamar Jackson, Pat Mahomes and Deshaun Watson like. He makes it look too easy.
When asked why he chosen to commit to A&T he says:
"The biggest factor in committing was integrity and being a man of your word . There’s schools out there telling you things like you’ll start or be the only quarterback we sign but when you get there 8 quarterbacks show up like you. Also a big factor was the family aspect , I’ll be here 4-5 years when my actual family can’t be there for me i need a family here and they’ve definitely shown that ever since they’ve started recruiting me”
Wilds- Lawing also spoke on his official visit :
"On the official visit the coaches welcomed me with opened arms . When I got there , the coach that recruited my area wasn’t the only one who knew me . All the coaches knew who I was and I wasn’t a surprise to anyone . The hosts/team showed how much of a family they are and how lit NCAT was in general. Home visit was like one of my uncles visiting my house and that’s the type of feeling I need from my coaches , it’s always been that way so that was a plus for me"
Off of the field Nick loves to eat almost everything with sugar and he love sweets. Just some of his favorite movies are Monsters inc and Friday but he pretty much loves all kids and hood movies. He's a big little kid in a big athletic body . Some of his favorite artist right now are Roddy Ricch , Toosii, Polo G, and Stunna4Vegas
Wilds- Lawing's high school coach describes him as “Nick’s a good kid and a good player. He’s not one of those kids who’s good, but (secretly) he’s a turd; he’s actually a good kid. All his teachers love him. He’s just a good kid. I’m glad I get the opportunity to be his coach.”
Even though Nick is still young, he has gone through much adversity in his life. Besides tearing his ACL his sophomore year of high school, growing up he would describe himself as a lot of anger mixed in with a lot of pain that he couldn’t really express, so he misbehaved “I just didn’t listen to people,” Wilds-Lawing says. “I guess I was stubborn. Growing up in a blended family, a lot of things went on. And then I took those problems to school.”
The tides turned for Wilds- Lawing when his parents no longer allowed him to play football. " All I had was football," he said. "But getting in so much trouble football was taken away from me because they knew that's what I loved. So I had to get my act together."
And Mr. Wilds- Lawings definitely did get his act together as now he is a outstanding young man, that has the brightest of futures.
Nick Wilds Lawing will be our Quarterback that ushers us to the Big South conference in 2021 and to continue the Aggie football dynasty. But more importantly, Nick Wilds -Lawing is a great kid, with great talent and the potential to be the best quarterback North Carolina AT has ever witnessed.
