The North Carolina A&T Aggies don't rebuild they reload, and the 2019 recruiting class is shaping up to be one of the best in school history. The Aggies love to find diamonds in the rough and mold them into greatness, ie, Tarik Cohen, Branden Parker and Tony Mcrae. Coming off of another Celebration Bowl championship A&T are losing a lot of veteran leadership with Lamar Raynard, Marquell Cartwright, Timadre Abram, and other seniors graduating, but the youth movement is coming. And the Aggies are poised to continue their football dynasty for years to come.
I have to start off this report highlighting the monster that is Tyquan Johnson from Edisto High in Cordova, SC. The 6'4 280 pound defensive tackle is a man amongst boys. When you turn on his high school tape he flashes on your screen immediately. Yes he has great size but he is also way faster and quicker than he looks. He can give it to you anyway you want it, with finesse or power. Johnson possess amazingly great speed coming off of the ball and is as violent of a defensive tackle as they come. This kid is un blockable. He stuffs the run, dominating opposing offensive lines and produces great pass rush for his position. Johnson also has high motor and never gives up on plays, throughout his tape he repeatedly ran running backs down from behind. Let me say that again. A 6'4 280 pound defensive tackle was running half backs down from behind. I can't wait to see Tyquan put on the gold and blue because I guarantee that he will be a staple of the Aggies defense for years to come.
After watching Tyquan Johnson's high school tape I had to find out who else A&T has coming in, and I found another gem in Jacob Roberts. Roberts is a 6'0 211 pound ILB from Mallard Creek High School, in my hometown of Charlotte, NC. Mallard Creek has been a North Carolina powerhouse for years, so once I read that he was voted as the Most Outstanding Defensive Player for Mallard Creek I knew that this kid was legit. He's a coaches dream of a linebacker. First of all the kid is fast as hell. He plays from sideline to sideline and isn't just a great tackler in space but he is also elite in coverage. Yes I said elite, piling up pass breakups and interceptions.
Roberts will also come down hill with fire in his eyes and will absolutely stuff the run. Which we all know is a very important part of the Aggies defense. Roberts is very instinctive and was blessed with tremendous athleticism. He like Tyquan Johnson, lights up my screen every time he makes a play. A&T had to battle MEAC rival Morgan State to land him and I'm sure glad we did because he is a certified home run for the Aggies.
Ahhh time to talk about the good ole offensive line. Just the talk of the big uglies get me excited, and Left Tackle Trawn Barrington has me doing backflips off the wall. Coming all the way from Victor Valley College in Victorville, CA, the 6'5" 310lbs tackle looks like a young Branden Parker. Barrington needs to get a job at I Hop because he all he does is serve pancakes. Soon as Barrington gets his hands on defenders they might as well quit trying because it's over. Trawn is powerful and has great technique.
Not only does he protect the Quarterback's blindside with the stone cold pass blocking he is also a certified mauler in the run game, running would be tacklers into the dirt. Don't sleep on Barrington's athleticism either, the man has wheels too. I love how Barrington can block both speed and power rushes. He as a rare combination of athleticsm, strength and technique that makes me salivate at just the though of him lining up beside A&T 2018 recruit, guard Tim Williams.
In conclusion, it's early but the 2019 recruiting class is looking stacked. We also added notable recruits such as ECU transfer Kingsley Ifedi, Chase Williamson and Fort Scott Linebacker Alex Fumbah. Yes the Aggies have lost a lot of experience on both sides of the ball, but our 2019 recruiting class is already looking superbly strong and A&T is still loaded with talent and leadership such as Elijah Bell, Darrly Johnson Jr, and Mac MCcain. So look out because the North Carolina A&T Aggies are going Celebration Bowling again.
