CAMERON RIVERS 2018 NFL MOCK DRAFT 1-10
We are only 2 days away from the 2018 NFL Draft, can you feel can you feel it can you feeeel it?*Michael Jackson voice*
Now before we go on with this mock draft let’s lay down some ground rules:
.No projected trades – I don’t know why this is a official rule, but if Mel Kiper Jr says so then it’s law
. These are picks that I believe each team WILL make. Not who I personally think they should select
.Let’s Dive Right In!!
1. Cleveland Browns select: Josh Allen QB, Wyoming –

New GM John Dorsey loves a big arm like fat girls love cake, and there is no bigger arm in this draft than Josh Allen. Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Media says he's hearing similar things from around the NFL, that the Browns are locking into Allen.
"Just in talking to people around the league for the last, I would say it really picked up in the last week, it's just a lot of people, not from inside the [Browns'] building -- I'll stress that -- but there's just a lot of people telling me, 'Hey, I think it's going to be Josh Allen,''' he said. "It's either guys that have worked with John Dorsey or guys that are familiar with that room and that process."
Let’s be honest the Browns suck at drafting. Josh Allen has the biggest bust potential out of all the quarterbacks in this draft class. Josh Allen is a big 6’5 235-pound kid who’s used to the up-north weather and can play in the harsh AFC North conditions.
On the high end he could be Big Ben but on the low end he could be the next Jamarcus Russell. Allen has one of the biggest arms college football have seen in maybe forever, but his accuracy is a concern to me with him only completing under 57% of his passes. Quarterbacks just don’t magically become more accurate once they get into the NFL. It never happens. What also I find amazing that Allen didn’t even make All Conference in the Mountain West.
How could the number 1 draft in the NFL draft not even make an all-conference team? Call GM Dorsey Sir-Mix-Alot because he likes big arms and he cannot lie, and trust me Mr. Allen got ARM.
2.The New York Giants select: Sam Darnold, QB, USC

I know I know both GM David Gettelman and new head coach Pat Shurmer both have been quoted praising Eli Manning recently and has been insisting that they will draft the best player available, but don’t be surprised if the Giants clears the smoke screen draft a QB after all. Actually expect it.
The Giants could go anywhere with this pick Bradley Chubb or Saquan Barkley would be nice additions to the New York football Giants undoubtedly but in a division where you’ll have to face off against both Carson Wentz and Dak Prescott for the next years; you NEED A QUARTERBACK OF THE FUTURE.
At least one NFL talent evaluator told NJ Advance Media’s Matt Lomabardi that the Giants are going to take a quarterback, provided the right one is available. And that right one is apparently Sam Darnold and definitely not Josh Rosen.
"If [Sam] Darnold is available, they're taking Darnold," the anonymous evaluator told Lombardo. "They don't like [Josh] Rosen."
Yes, Sam Darnold was a turnover machine last season losing 8 fumbles and throwing 13 interceptions. And Yes, the turnover bug follows quarterbacks to the NFL; but Darnold is special mark my words. After watching Sam Darnold defeat Penn State in the Rose Bowl two years ago, I anointed him as “The One.”’
While Darnold did have a solid season, last year leading his USC Trojans to 10 wins; he didn’t live up to all the Heisman hype he had in the preseason. None of that will matter soon as Sam Darnold steps into an NFL locker room. Darnold is a leader. He will have no trouble commanding the huddle or earning respect in his locker room.
Darnold has that “IT” factor about him that makes you believe as long as he’s on your team you have a chance to win the game.’
3. THE NEW YORK JETS SELECT: Baker Mayfield QB, Oklahoma

Mayfield does Manhattan! Oh God! Now I just want to make this clear before I talk about Mayfield’s game:
I don’t like him grabbing his crotch on sidelines, I don’t like his cocky attitude, I don’t like him calling himself “infectious” and I especially don’t like him running away from the cops while intoxicated on video.
Oh wait did I mention that I don't like my rookie franchise quarterback posing on magazine covers shirtless?
I actually think Mayfield hasn’t been given enough heat for his personality and antics. I mean the media killed Jameis Winston for leaving with free crab cakes that the restaurant owner gave him. With that being said, Baker Mayfield could be the best player out of this whole draft class.
He’s incredibly accurate and is a fierce competitor. His teammates love him and he is for sure an Alpha male. Mayfield manages to be such a gunslinger while being so smart with the football. Mayfield is a low risk high rewards player, having thrown for 41 TD’s last year and only 9 interceptions.
I do have more concerns though! Mayfield is short. Plain and simple and what I hate is the lazy comparison to Russell Wilson. Yes, Wilson and Mayfield are vertically challenged but Russell Wilson was and still is 4x the athlete that Baker Mayfield is. Take away quickness, speed, football IQ, good character and then maybe you have Baker Mayfield. I do have a fun comparison for Mayfield however: Johnny Manziel!
I actually think New York is the worst city for Mayfield to play. Bright lights, the night life, there’s so much to do. I don’t worry about Mayfield on the field but I’ll have a 24/7 tracking device on him off of the field.
The Jets could go rather QB Josh Rosen here, who I believe will be the best quarterback in this whole draft
Also, don’t be surprised if Mayfield is the first player to get his name called on Thursday night.
Ok. So now that all my thoughtful analysis is out of the way let’s just finish up these picks!
4. The Cleveland Browns Select: Bradley Chubb, DE ,NC STATE –

There’s two things you need to do in football. 1. Protect the Quarterback and 2. Rush the Quarterback. Easily the best Pass rusher in this class. Pair Chubb up with Garret on that Cleveland defensive line and you potentially have 2 hall of fame players on your team for the next 10 years
5. The Denver Broncos select: Denzel Ward CB, Ohio State. –

The most complete cornerback in this draft class. The Broncos fulfil a whole in their secondary left by Aqib Talib. Denzel Ward has exceptional ball skills and he will also come up and make a great open field tackle too. Like his former teammate and reigning defensive player of the year Marcus Lattimore; Ward was only a 1-year starter at Ohio State. But in that one year he showed that he’s the best CB in this draft class
6. The Indianapolis Colt select Saquan Barkley, RB, Penn State –

Andrew Luck is somewhere singing “Oh Happy Day” after this pick. Finally, the Colts get Andrew Luck some help in the backfield with this selection of Barkley. With Luck coming back after missing the 2017 season entirely, the Colts need to get Luck the help and talent around him to become a contender. Let’s destroy this myth right here. Barkley is not Ezekiel Elliot, or Todd Gurley.
Barkley isn’t your classic 3 down running back, but he is perfect for today’s NFL. Barkley is an incredible athlete with great hands out of the backfield. He will have a very productive season as a rookie but calm down on all the hype guys! The Colts could also go defense here. They need everything.
7. The Tampa Bay Bucs select: Derwin James S, Florida State –

One of the most freakish athletes in this draft class. Derwin James soared up the draft boards after an amazing combine. James is an all-purpose Safety which is all the rage in the NFL today. James can cover in man to man, play in the box or use his instincts in zone coverages. The Bucs need way more playmakers on defense and Derwin James has a ton of potential and can be a top young safety in the league.
8. The Chicago Bears Select: Quenton Nelson G, Notre Dame :

You just drafted your QB for the future in last year’s draft in Mitchell Trubisky, so now it’s time to pick arguably the best player in this draft to protect him, and that’s Notre Dame guard Quenton Nelson. With comparisons to another ND guard Nick Martin, Quenton Nelson is the safest pick in this whole draft. He will be a multiple time pro bowler, and if the Bears want Mitchell Trubisky to reach his potential they will get him a franchise offensive lineman, who can both pass and run protect.
9. The San Francisco 49ers select: Minkah Fitzpatrick S, Alabama –

Look, if 2 months ago you told me that Minkah Fitzpatrick wouldn’t be the first Safety off the board in this year’s draft; I would ask you if you were high. But every draft has a top prospect that slips down the draft board and now it looks like Fitzpatrick will graciously fall into the lap of Kyle Shannahan and Jimmy G's San Francisco 49ers. I can’t stress how good of a pick up this would be for San Francisco.
Fitzpatrick has high character, loves football and has no bust potential. I actually think he should be the first Safety drafted but the Bucs will fall in love with Derwin James’ combine numbers. But let the Bucs have James because at this slection Fitzpatrick would be the steal of the draft!
Note: The 49ers could also go Linebacker at this selection after last year's 30th pick Reuben Foster has recently been charged domestic violence.
10. The Oakland Raiders select: Tremaine Edmunds LB, Virginia Tech –

Coming out of V Tech Edmunds was the best linebacker in all of college football last season, and he’s only 19 years old! Edmunds Transcendent combination of size and athleticism for the linebacker position is very rare and is the only reason I have him going to the Raiders rather than Georgia’s Roquan Smith. Edmund has lightning speed to the football and is very much capable as flat defender in coverage. Wins often due to his length and physical prowess. However, Edmunds is not developed as block-shedder and obvious is a big target for offensive linemen.
